Career paths rarely follow a straight line, and Denton Pangelinan’s journey is proof that some of life’s most rewarding opportunities can come from the most unexpected places.
Today, Denton serves as Pacific Aero Tech’s Chief Inspector, but his path to aviation began far from the aerospace industry. It’s a story of resilience, adaptability, and finding purpose through every chapter of life.
Long before he entered the aerospace industry, Denton spent nearly a decade serving in the United States Army. While the experience shaped him professionally, its greatest impact came through the lessons he learned about leadership, work ethic, and perseverance. But most of all, Sergeant First Class Phillip Bishop, was Denton’s most powerful influence, whom he describes as a second father. What stood out most wasn’t what Sergeant Bishop said, but how he led.
“If his soldiers were in the weeds working, he was with them physically, working right alongside them.”
His example left a lasting impression and continues to influence the way Denton approaches leadership today.
Like many, Denton’s journey hasn’t been without obstacles, openly sharing his experiences with PTSD and depression as the most difficult challenges he’s faced. Rather than allowing those experiences to define him, he chose to grow through them.
“I took those experiences and used them as a tool to grow and make myself better.”
That mindset eventually led him to discover his passion for photography and filmmaking. What began as a creative outlet quickly grew into something much larger. Upon the end of his service in the U.S. Army in 2018, and his long-awaited return home to Saipan, Denton launched a photography and filmmaking business with a simple goal: create meaningful work while building something great.
What began with family portraits quickly evolved into wedding photography, commercial projects, documentaries, and film production. One of his earliest films, Remember Me, focused on raising PTSD awareness. The project earned recognition at the Guam International Film Festival and opened doors to opportunities he never expected. Over time, his work led to larger productions and collaborations, allowing him to build a successful career in an industry fueled by creativity and storytelling.
Then life changed again.
When the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike brought much of the film industry to a halt, Denton found himself at another crossroads. Instead of viewing the situation as a setback, he did what he had always done: adapted.
A family connection introduced him to Pacific Aero Tech, where he joined the team in 2023 as a mechanic. While aviation was unfamiliar territory, adaptability, discipline, and a willingness to learn, qualities that had guided him through his life, proved valuable once again.
His growth within the company happened quickly. Over the course of just a few years he progressed through several roles before being promoted to Chief Inspector in May of 2025. And when asked what skill has helped him the most throughout his career, his answer came without hesitation.
“Adaptability.”
Whether in the military, the film industry, or aerospace, Denton has learned that success often depends on the ability to embrace change and remain flexible when circumstances shift.
That philosophy carries into his leadership style today. He believes strong teams are built through accountability, communication, and a shared commitment to quality. As Chief Inspector, he sees his role not as finding fault, but as helping ensure the highest standards are achieved while supporting the people around him.
Looking back on his journey, Denton says he is most proud of his drive to set goals and accomplish them every step of the way. At the heart of his story is a simple saying that continues to guide him every day.
“I am always driven by purpose, and my purpose is growth.”
It’s a message that resonates far beyond any industry or career path. Growth isn’t always comfortable, and life’s plans don’t always unfold as expected. But by remaining adaptable, embracing challenges, and staying connected to a greater purpose, Denton’s journey reminds us that some of our greatest opportunities can come from the paths we never intended to take.
